Or, Would You?

Purchase toys from a child having a yard sale, knowing that he is selling them for only a fraction of the original cost?

Yes, I would.

  1. So the items that I can use/give as gifts do not end up in a landfill somewhere.
  2. To save money.
  3. Because children are taught that this is a practical way to earn money to buy something else that they want.

How do you feel about this?

  1. I’ve already bought many Barbie outfits at yard sales. If I’m able to I always give the seller a little more. Usually the parents are selling the stuff so I don’t know if their children get the money but it’s nice to give a little more. Last Spring I picked up some Barbie Fashion Boulevard packs that were never opened. The family selling them asked for $1 a pack. I gave them $1.50 each.

I think having the children involved in a yard sale is a great learning experience for them.

    1. I agree. It is a wonderful learning experience. Most of the time, the children are not involved and see none of the money. The parents are using the money to pay bills or something like replace an appliance.

  2. I agree with your post , but im a bit spectical is about the 2nd point. I woould not like to save money coz im buying from a child. may be he is parting from a loved toy. I want him to enjoy that he gained something.
