Having a picnic does not have to cost an arm and a leg. It can be accomplished on the tightest of budgets, and provides the family with an opportunity to get out and have some fun.
A blanket thrown into the vehicle, along with a Frisbee, is a start in the right direction. You may also choose to bring along a football or a baseball, gloves and a bat. If you are picnicking at the beach, don’t forget some cheap beach toys, towels and swim suits.
Food can be simple fair, such as peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, bananas and some sun tea. Make the food ahead of time and put everything into the car.
Personal and nature journals, magazines and books can also be packed, as well as a camera. Whatever you already have on hand that you would like to bring. A picnic is a great way to relax and have some fun on a hot summer day.
If gas money is an issue, have the picnic on the front lawn – or walk to the local park, carrying the blanket and food.
