What is Goodwill?

Goodwill is more than a store to shop at for discounted and used Items. According to Goodwill Industries, they are a network of 165 Goodwills throughout the United States and Canada that offer customized job training, employment placement and other services to people who have disabilities, lack education or job experience, or face employment challenges.

Goodwill doesn’t only help with job training and placement. They help individuals in achieve their career goals in other ways, as well, including:

  • Education opportunities
  • English language training
  • Child care
  • Transportation
  • Resume writing
  • Practice interviews

The training they offer helps individuals obtain careers in many different fields, including:

  • Retail
  • Banking
  • Maintenance
  • Computers
  • Medical
  • Restaurants

Goodwill Industries offer their services to many people including:

  • Youth
  • Adults
  • Seniors
  • Immigrants
  • Veterans
  • Disabled individuals
  • Individual’s with criminal backgrounds

When you shop at Goodwill stores, you find a lot of great used and discounted items. The items they sell are donated by community members and some companies.  They sell clothes, books, housewares, shoes and much more. The money they receive from the stores goes to fund the job program and other services.

Goodwill is not just a store where you can find great deals. The proceeds go to help individuals who live in the United States and Canada obtain employment. If you are looking for work they have a job board on their website. If you are looking for training check out their site for more information. Remember, when you shop at Goodwill stores, you make a difference in the lives of many others.

    • You are welcome. My sister wrote this one for me, and I am proud to have the article on my blog. My daughters and I have shopped Goodwill for years, and our purchases there have helped us to save needed money while they are growing up. Now that my daughter is in college, she is all proud when she comes home and says “Look what I bought at Goodwill the other day!”

I hope to help as many people as possible to live more frugally, whether they have to or choose to.
I am a freelance writer and a housekeeper, bedmaker and in laundry at an inn. Most of my articles end up on eHow.com and GardeGuides.com, as well as a number of blogs, and elsewhere on the web. All of this keeps me pretty busy.
I like to try to save pennies wherever possible, incorporating sales, coupons and dollar stores into my shopping habits. It is my desire to help other to be more frugal.
