Goals Update: Infinity Razor for Women

Posted by Shannon Buck on Sunday, August 31, 2008

So, I purchased two of these this past spring, and already they need to be replaced. I am not happy about this. I have to send them back the entire razors to get new blades, which means that I will be paying shipping to get new ones. I might as well just go back to the store and buy new ones. So much for free replacement.

At any rate, we decided not to get the same razor. We will go with something else. I signed up to get a free Venus razor, and Zowie still has her old one with plenty of blades.

Fuel Assistance

Posted by Shannon Buck on Friday, August 29, 2008

Everyone who may possibly qualify for this should set up their appointments now. I actually did this through Penquis CAP last month, and my appointment is in October.

Fuel assistance will not pay for all of your oil, but it will pay for some. This can be very helpful. There are also other benefits if you qualify. Discounts on your phone bill, and I think that there is a bit of a discount on the electricity. Not sure about that last one, though.

Anyway, call and make your appointments. It looks like some states are going to have rough, colder than normal winters.

Ever Have One of Those Evenings?

Posted by Shannon Buck on Friday, August 29, 2008

So , last night I decided to make pasta sauce in the slowcooker. When it was done cooking, I took the lid off and turned the slowcooker off. Then I got distracted.

Fast forward to 11:00 this morning. I am picking up the kitchen, and notice the pasta sauce, uncovered. Hmmmm….I now have a fruit fly problem. How do I get rid of them?

Making Rags

Posted by Shannon Buck on Tuesday, August 26, 2008

It looks like we will be needing rags again. The old ones seem to have outlived their usefulness. I have been saving new dish cloths and dish towels for when I could no longer use the old ones for kitchen use.

The old towels and cloths are very old, stained and yucky looking. I will cut them up and use them as rags until they cannot be used for that use any longer.

Dishcloths are cut in half and dish towels are cut into thirds. In this way, I can assure that they do not inadvertently end up back into the kitchen drawer when one of the children is putting clean laundry away.

Rags have their own place. Everyone in the household is privy to the location, and we do not have issues of misplacement.

We also use old bathroom towels and wash cloths as rags. Wash cloths are cut in half, hand towels in thirds, and the bath towels are cut up into as many pieces as is possible.

So, free rags will soon be replacing non-usable ones, and new dish cloths and towels will find their way into the cupboard drawer.

Another Yard Sale Success and Sewing Curtains

Posted by Shannon Buck on Monday, August 25, 2008

I have decided that, since I gave up the DirecTV and the BlockBuster.com, I needed to have some sort of entertainment for the winter months. I will be reading and sewing.

I purchased 8 books for $4.00 at a yard sale Sunday, as well as a few other books over the summer. I am currently reading Lisey’s Story by Stephen King, which I picked up for a quarter. I also have a couple of John Saul books, Pay it Forward, and quite a few Dean R. Koontz books.

There are only a few nights a week in which we watch television shows. On these nights, I will likely be sewing the curtains by hand. Then, I will be reading on the other evenings.

What are your plans for cheap entertainment this winter?

How To Get Your Deposit Back When You Move

Posted by Shannon Buck on Monday, August 18, 2008

No, this is not really a how-to article, LOL. It is more of an update of my day.

Today, my mother, sister, nephew and I helped my brother to clean and finish packing up his apartment so that he could finish moving. Mom and I each brought a bucket with rags and cleaning supplies, and mom also brought her vacuum. We cleaned and finished packing, though most of his stuff had already been moved into the other apartment.

(We noticed that all of the apartments that my brother moves into are #2.)

Anyway, in the fine state of Maine, you can count on the landlords painting and getting the rugs washed themselves, so wiping down the walls quickly and vacuuming are all that is necessary there.

Giving the bathroom a good cleaning doesn’t take long, and neither does wiping out the closets and washing the windows.

The most time consuming room is the kitchen, because you have to wash out the cupboards and clean all of the appliances well.

Anyway, my brother is all moved, and should get back most, if not all, of his deposit.

He is moving into a two bedroom apartment to share bills with a friend.

Have a nice evening everyone.
