First of all, I always make sure that there is vinegar in the rinse agent hole. It seems that the best detergent is simply equal amounts of washing soda and borax. You use 2 tablespoons. I will experiment using 1 tablespoon.
Also, you put the detergent into one of the other holes. Some say not to put it into the hole that locks closed.

Glad to see that you are back. I have begun using the “green bags” and they do seem to make produce last longer without spoiling. Be careful about reusing the water bottles, there has been a lot of information lately that after one use they begin to deteriorate and release harmful chemicals. I also recently started using the cloth bags for purchases and I am still remembering to take them along. I have a compost heap that I used sparingly last year, but will utilize this year. You can also compost your table scraps with worms, haven’t tried that one yet. I also plan to start recycling cans, glass, etc. For your canning experiences there are some wonderful books called: Stocking Up that are great for more natural ways to can, freeze, preserve, root cellar, etc. We should all do what we can for the environment.
